Avoiding property scams in Guyana
Skyline Properties reviews reported listings, but the platform can't verify every claim in every post the moment it goes live. These are the habits that protect you regardless of where a listing came from.
Never pay before viewing
No deposit, holding fee, or "reservation payment" should ever be sent before you've seen the property in person and met the owner or agent face to face. This is the single most common scam pattern — someone posts real photos of a property they don't own or control, and asks for money to "hold" it.
Verify who you're dealing with
Ask for the owner or agent's full name and confirm it matches who shows up to the viewing. Look for the "Verified Agent" badge on a listing — it means Skyline Properties has reviewed that account. A missing badge doesn't automatically mean a scam (most individual owners aren't agents), but it means you should do a bit more of your own verification.
Get everything in writing
A legitimate rental or sale involves a written agreement — a lease, a sale agreement, or at minimum a signed receipt for any money that changes hands. Be cautious of anyone who insists on cash only with no paperwork, or who pressures you to decide immediately.
Report suspicious listings
Every listing page has a "Report this listing" link. If a price seems far below market for the area, photos look reused from elsewhere, or the owner is evasive about a viewing, report it — reports go to our team for review and repeat offenders get removed.
If you've already sent money
Stop all further contact and payments immediately. Report the listing to us so we can remove it and flag the account, and report the incident to the Guyana Police Force. Skyline Properties doesn't process payments between users and can't reverse a transfer, but reporting it helps protect the next person.
